2006 best Orthodox mass media and journalists named

The Club of Orthodox journalists uniting the leaders of the major Orthodox mass media and the leading journalists writing about Orthodoxy named the best authors and publications in 2006. The club’s prize is international and is awarded at the International Christmas Educational Readings.

The ‘Golden Pen’ prize was conferred on the deputy of Polish Seim and editor-in-chief of The Orthodox Review’ journal Yevgeny Chikvin. Hegumeness Serafima, mother superior of St Michael’s Convent in Odessa was named the best journalist of the year. A publicist Sergei Skatov got a special prize for journalistic investigation – a series of publications on the situation of the Patriarchal metochion in Sokolniki and the Russian ‘Boyan’ academic orchestra.

‘Foma’ journal was named the best publication; ‘Vinograd’ journal of the Pskov Monastery of the Caves – the best educational publication, ‘Kovcheg’ of the Belgorod diocese – the best youth journal, and ‘Radost Moya’ (My Joy) – the best journal for children.

St Jonah’s Monastery in Kiev and its abbot archimandrite Jonah (Cherepanov) were awarded a special prize for a series of information projects. ‘Radonezh’ radio, ‘Pravoslavnaya Beseda’ (Orthodox Talks) and ‘Blagovestnik’ newspaper published in Kolomna, Moscow region, were awarded ‘for the faithfulness to Orthodoxy’ in connection with their fifteenth anniversary.

The winners would get their prizes at the World Russian Peoples’ Council to take place in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow next March.
