Состоялась встреча Святейшего Патриарха Алексия с Верховным муфтием Сирии доктором Ахмадом Бадр Аль-Дином Хассуном

On 5 July 2006, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy met with the Grand Mufti of Syria Dr. Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun. The meeting took place in the framework of the World Summit of Religious Leaders.

The relations between the Orthodox and the Muslims and between Russia and Syria were discussed. His Holiness the Patriarch thanked the Mufti for his participation in the Summit and underscored that the Orthodox Christians and Muslims have lived in peace in Russia for centuries. This could give a useful lesion to the entire world.

The Grand Mufti Ahmad Badr Al-din Hassoun conveyed greetings from the President Bashar al-Assad of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church and invited His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II to visit Syria. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.

The Grand Mufti of Syria declared his support to the Orthodox communities in his country and in the entire Christian world and expressed his concern for the assassination of the Russian Embassy staff in Iraq.
