Three fourths of drug addicts recover in the church rehabilitation centres

75% of drug addicts who turn to the rehabilitation centres of the Russian Orthodox Church recover, deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for external church relations bishop Mark of Yegorievsk stated.

‘Faith and religious values are probably the strongest preventive remedy against the temptation to taste drugs,’ he said at a news conference in Moscow on June 23.

Bishop Mark of Yegorievsk said that the Russian church ran several dozens rehabilitation centres for the drug addicts. He thinks that it necessary not only help people recover from drug addiction as a decease, but – what is most important – help them find the true meaning of life. Only 11% made a complete recovery from drug addiction as a decease in the USA, while 40% recovered after they had managed to find the meaning of life.
