The Orthodoxy in Ukraine website hosted a church lexicon for the duff people. The lexicon contains some 600 gestures in Russian and Ukrainian with pronunciation and subtitles. Each word is given with a lexical explanation. There are also two modes of gesture-translation of the prayers, a parallel one and an adopted one, and some parts of the Divine Liturgy with gesture-translation using some words from the lexicon.
The lexicon contains some ideas for making gesture-translation of worship more efficient. The translators using the lexicon may help duff believers to ‘hear’ the service, perusing their more active socialization in church and communication with other Orthodox believers.
The lexicon is helpful for choosing gestures to translate Orthodox wording in the most exact way. The lexicon’s makers do not try to press a particular gesture for every world. They provide a variety of gestures and gesture-translators may choose between them.
