Requiem service for the late Metropolitan Nikolai is conducted in the Representation Church of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia in Moscow

On 4 February 2006, the order of burial of the late Primate of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia Metropolitan Nikolai was conducted in the Cathedral of St. Alexander of Neva in Preshov, Slovakia. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, Archbishop Feofan of Berlin and Germany participated in the ceremony on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Also with the blessing of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Bishop Mark of Yegorievsk, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, conducted the Divine Liturgy with requiem service at the Church of St. Nicholas in Kotelniki, which is the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia. Among his concelebrants were clerics of the representation church and DECR staff members.

Before the requiem service, Bishop Mark read out the message of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy to the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia.

His Holiness said in his address: ‘The whole life of the late Metropolitan was devoted to the Church of Christ and people of God. The pastoral ministry of His Beatitude was realized mainly in Slovakian, but he was well known to the entire Orthodox world. He visited fraternal Local Orthodox Churches and their hierarchs and clerics uplift prayers so that the Lord may rest his soul in the dwellings of the righteous’.
