A chapel on the police college premises was consecrated in Odessa

On 19 December 2005, Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail consecrated a chapel dedicated to St.Nicholas, the Wonderworker and Archbishop of Myra in Lycea built on the premises of a police college. ‘We all need the help of St.Nicholas at present, when there is neither accord, nor peace and unity in society. Whoever entreats him in prayer will have his gracious help, and all will be consoled’, Metropolitan Agafangel said in his archpastoral word to command personnel, teachers and cadets of the college.

An idea to build the chapel belongs to law enforcement officers. According to the head of the Odessa region Directorate of Internal Affairs Mikhail Vershnyak, ‘it is easy to say that police and people are one, but if those who enforce the law are not rich spiritually, if they do not believe in God in their hearts, they will not be able to understand people and their misfortunes and help them.’
