В галерее Паломнического центра открылась художественная выставка, посвященная годовщине Бородинской битвы

An art exhibition called ‘Russia justly remembers…’ and devoted to the anniversary of the Borodino Battle was opened on September 15, 2005, at the gallery of the Moscow Patriarchate Pilgrimage Center. It was opened by Bishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, who welcomed the participants and guests of the exhibition. The choir of the Chapel of St. Olga Equal-to-the-Apostles recited solemn hymns devoted to this significant historical event.

Among the speakers at the opening were also A. Rozhin, Tretykov Gallery editor-in-chief and full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Ms. L. Komarova, general director of the International Arts Foundation, S. Gavrilyachenko, secretary of the Russian Artists Union and Russia’s Honoured Artist, and Prof. V. Zhelvakov, full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Russia’s Honoured Artists and professor at the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

Presented at the exhibition are portraits of celebrated Russian military commanders Kutuzov, Platov, Yermolov, rank and file who participated in battles with Napoleon’s army, Cossacks, and battle scenes. Along with oil and graphic works by modern Russian artists, visitors can see models of military uniforms of the 1812 period, as well as books and post cards devoted to this theme.

The exhibition has become a continuation of the series of issue expositions presented by the Pilgrimage Center gallery and called to reflect the continuity of generations, the national spirit of the Russian people, their unshakable faith in victory in various historical periods.
