Humanitarian relief of Russian Orthodox Church delivered to South Ossetia

Press service of the Stavropol diocese informs that on September 2, 2008 Metropolitan Sergey of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for church charity and social service, and Archbishop Theophan of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz delivered humanitarian aid to Tskhinval for the inhabitants of South Ossetia from the Russian Orthodox Church.

500 families received sets of prime necessities made up in consideration of people’s needs with the financial means passed to the special account opened with the blessing of His Holiness Alexy II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. The Moscow Patriarchate department for social service and the diocese of Stavropol are taking part in the practical realization of this project.

A meeting of Orthodox hierarchs with the South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity took place in Tskhinval. The President appreciated the humanitarian activity of the Russian Orthodox Church aimed at the support of people who had gone through a severe trial.
