Russian North Fleet acquires a cruise Icon of the Holy Warrior Fyodor

A prayer service was conducted at the Icon of the Holy Warrior Fyodor Ushakov with a particle of his relics on 2 June 2008 at St. Nicholas’s in Murmansk.

According the Savior youth portal in Murmansk, this icon returned recently from a long cruise around Europe, which was a third stage in the Ushakov Cruise. After the North Fleet’s maneuvers in the Mediterranean, the icon was given to the Black Sea Fleet to visit Savastopol, Novorossijsk and Krasnodar and to conclude its cruise in Murmansk.

The prayer service led by Archbishop Simon of Murmansk and Mochegorsk was attended by Archpriest Dmitry Smirnov, head of the synodal department for cooperation with the armed forces and law enforcement, who came to Murmansk on the invitation of the ruling bishop and some fifty diocesan clergy.

From now on the icon will be kept at St. Nicholas’s but will be taken on long cruises to be made by the North Fleet submarines and ships.
