Academy of Choral Singing continuing traditions of the Synodal Choir School arranges the first Russian National Festival of Boy Choirs

The first national festival of boy choirs to be held in Russia took place from June 17 to 24, 2007, in Moscow, Yaroslavl and Vladimir. It was organized by the Academy of Choral Singing with the support of Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography with the aim to help revive the choral traditions of spiritual singing in Russia.

The Academy is a successor of the famous Synodal Choir School, which was disbanded after the 1917 Revolution and resumed in 1944 as the Moscow Choral School. It continued the old tradition of Russian singing art born in the Russian Orthodox Church after the Baptism of Russia.

About 200 boys from 7 to 18 years of age participated in the festival, performing the church music by such famous Russian composers as Bortnyansky, Chaikovsky and Sviridov.
