Memorial Cross established in the Martha and Mary abode

A Memorial Cross was established and blessed in the Martha and Mary abode of mercy on the feast day of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia to commemorate those murdered in Alapayevsk in 1918 together with the founder of the abode, Grand Duchess Elizabeth, RIA Novosti reports.

Archbishop Alexy of Orekhovo-Zuevo celebrated the Office of the Blessing and said, ‘The cross should remind us that Christians cannot live and be saved without cross. Each of us has his own cross to carry.’

There is a plaque on the wooden Memorial Cross with the names of a nephew of the Emperor Alexander II, the Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich; Ioann, Konstantin and Igor – the three sons of the Great Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich; Duke Vladimir Palei and the court administrator of the Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich – Feodor Remez, who voluntarily followed him into exile.
