В рамках проекта возвращения исторической звонницы Данилова монастыря российские эксперты по колоколам прибыли в Гарвард

A group of Russian experts on bells is on a working visit to Harvard from 11 to 18 February – site ‘Saintdaniel.ru’ reports.

The purpose of the visit is to obtain complete information about the historical bells of the convent. Different measurements will be taken and the ornamental pattern will be copied for casting bells which will in the future change the historical ones. The casting will be implemented at one of Russian factories.

In 1930s when the Soviet authorities melted lots of church bells, the ones of St. Daniel monastery escaped the common lot. An American citizen bought them, took to the USA and presented them to the University of Harvard where they are located until now. In 2003 negotiations concerning their return to the historical site began.

In August 2006 a delegation of Harvard University visited Russia and studied the capabilities of the most famous bell-casting factories. The bells cast in Russia will be taken to Harvard and the historical bells will be returned to the St. Daniel monastery.
