Reservoirs first blessed in Mongolia on Epiphany Day

The Great Blessing of Waters was performed in the parish of the Holy Trinity in Ulan-Bator on Epiphany Day. A lot of people attended the service and the blessing of waters, site ‘Orthodoxy in Mongolia’ reports.

After that some of the parishioners followed the Rev. Alexiy Trubach – dean of the parish – who blessed open reservoirs. The weather was suitable for swimming, only 25 degrees with fresh breeze. However, only seven out of thirty people decided to plunge into the blessed reservoir because of the loss of traditions. This might well have been the first over 80 years blessing of open sources of water in Mongolia on Epiphany Day. But enthusiasm of parishioners gives hope that in the coming years this tradition will develop.

Early morning 19 January the Festive Liturgy was celebrated and the Great Blessing of Waters performed. For the whole day people were coming to the Mongolian Orthodox Parish for the blessed water.
