Traditional Christmas reception at the Russian Federation Consulate General in New York

On 10 January at the Russian Consulate General in New York was held a traditional Christmas reception, jointly organized by the representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate in the US and the Consulate General of the Russian Federation.

Among the guests were: V. Churkin – Russian representative to the UN, Archbishop Migliore – Pope Benedict XVI’s representative to the United Nations, Bishop of Manhattan Gabriel (Russian Orthodox Church Abroad), Rabbi A. Schneier – the President of the international peacemaking foundation ‘Appeal of Conscience’; diplomatic representatives, accredited in New York; representatives of the UN Secretariat, mass-media, businessmen, clergymen of the Moscow Patriarchate parishes, Orthodox Church in America, Patriarchates of Antioch, Jerusalem and Serbia, Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.

The guests were greeted by S. Garmonin – the Consul General of Russia in New York and Bishop of Zaraysk Mercury. His Grace Bishop in his statement underlined a special, filled with joy, meaning of the Nativity of Christ in believers’ lives and wished everyone peace, welfare and help from God. On behalf of the Roman-Catholic church the guests were greeted by the Nuncio Apostolico in the UN Archbishop Migliore.

During the reception the guests had an opportunity to enjoy singing of St. Nicholas Cathedral choir and the Bogachevs – soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre and Metropolitan-opera. The excellent skills of the performers received grateful response from the numerous guests.

The concert was followed by festive Christmas dinner.
