Russian Orthodox Church of St Sergius in Johannesburg celebrates the Nativity of Christ

The Nativity of Christ was celebrated in the Russian Orthodox Church of St Sergius of Radonezh in the South Africa Republic capital Johannesburg. The compatriots living in the south of Africa worshipped at the All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy on January 6 and 7. After the Liturgy the rector of the church Fr Ioann Lapidus read out Christmas greeting from Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa and Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia. Christmas Vespers were celebrated in the afternoon; many people worshipped.

The worshippers were invited to the Parish Centre to attend Christmas performance given by the children from Sunday school. The performance was followed by festive dinner.

The Russian Ambassador to the SAR A. Makarov, the Russian Ambassador to Botswana I. Lyakin-Frolov, representatives of the Serbian, Bulgarian and Greek diasporas in the south of Africa attended the divine service and the parish party along with many parishioners.
