The session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church opened at the Patriarch’s Chambers in the Laura of the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius on 17 July 2006.
Taking part in the session are Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine, Metropolitan Vladimir of St. Petersburg and Ladoga, Metropolitan Philaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for external church relations Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk, Metropolitan Vladimir of Kishinev and All Moldova, Archbishop Philaret of Penza and Kuznetsk, Archbishop Kirill of Yaroslavl and Rostov, Bishop Guriy of Novogrudok and Lida, Bishop Maxim of Barnaul and Altai and Bishop Feodosy of Tambov and Michurinsk.
The session lasted from 11.0 a.m. to 03.00 p.m. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy officiated at the All0Night Vigil for the feast day of St. Sergius of Radonezh, the founder of the Laura of the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius. The Divine Liturgy was and a prayer service in the Laura Square was celebrated on the feast day, July 18. The session resumed its work in Moscow on July 19.
His Holiness congratulated His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine with the 40th anniversary of his episcopal consecration and Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna with his Name Day.
