The largest almshouse in the St.Petersburg diocese to be built in Toksovo

On 12 July 2006, a cross was installed on the dome of the Cathedral of St. Michael and All Bodiless Powers of Heaven in the village of Toksovo. A geriatric centre is being constructed at the church.

Next August the centre will be named after Empress Maria Feodorovna, the wife of Alexander III, known in Russian history as a patron of the poor and suffering people. Charity institutions in Russia were called ‘Mariinskie.’

The feast day of Ss Peter and Paul marked twelve years of the beginning of construction works in Toksovo. Two churches, a Sunday school, a house for clergymen and a workshop were built on people’s offerings.

The largest almshouse in the diocese was being built with the blessing of Metropolitan Vladimir of St.Petersburg and Ladoga from 2005. The geriatric centre will be equipped with modern medical technology and special equipment for the elderly people. Benefactors from Denmark, the birthplace of Maria Feodorovna, will provide methods of work with the patients and the equipment.
