The Right Hand of John the Baptist Brought to Kiev

The right hand of the holy Prophet and the Baptist of the Lord John was brought with a special flight from St Petersburg to the Monastery of the Caves in Kiev on 12 July 2006 and will stay there till 14 July.

Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine with his clergy and people met the holy relics at the monastery’s main gate. Some three thousand people came to meet and to venerate the holy remains.

A service was held in the square in front of the monastery’s Assumption Cathedral after which the right hand was carried into the cathedral for veneration.

The relics will stay in the Elevation of the Cross church from 13 to 14 July and will be available for pilgrims twenty-four hours a day.

On Friday a service of supplication will be held before bringing the right hand to the Diocese of Zaporozhye.
