Metropolitan Kirill Takes Part in a Roundtable on Relationships between Russia and the West on the Eve of the G8 Meeting

The chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad took part in a Roundtable on Relationships between Russia and the West on the Eve of the G8 Meeting on 13 July 2006.
The event organized by the Unity for the Sake of Russia foundation and the Strategiya Rossii periodical was held in the Savoy Hotel conference hall.
The main issue of the agenda was the article ‘We and the West’ by the co-president of the United Russia party’s supreme council and the Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov.
The roundtable was chaired by the president of the Politika foundation V. Nikonov. Among the participants there were the co-president of the United Russia party’s supreme council and Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov, the president the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Evgeni Primakov, the United Russia party general council’s presidium secretary V. Bogomolov, the president of the Academy of the Russian Television foundation Vladimir Pozner, the director of the Institute of Strategic Studies and Analysis Vagif Guseynov, the speaker of the Moscow City Duma V. Platonov, the president of the Effective Politics foundation Gleb Pavlovsky, the head of the Roszarubezh Centre E. Mitrofanova, the chairman of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation’s commission on globalism and national development strategy A. Migranyan, and others.
In his address Metropolitan Kirill dealt with issues of correlation of traditional values and moral pluralism in the society, human rights and personal freedom, Russia’s future in the new framework of global relations.
