On June 24, a ‘House of Mercy’ Orthodox orphanage welcomed foreign students studying in the Volgograd State Medical University.
Young people from India, China, Malaysia and Kenya have been visiting orphanage children for three years. When medical students learned of this social institution, they decided to render any possible help to them, the Volgograd diocese website reports. The students bring candies and clothes to children and talk and play with them, thus practicing their Russian and coming to a better understanding of Russia. They have sincere and devoted friends here.
This visit, however, was a farewell for many students, as they have graduated from the University and are returning to their countries. They will keep in memory their life in Volgograd and visits to Volzhskiy.
An orphanage trustee and deputy of the Volzhskiy Duma S. Yemelianenko awarded foreign students with honourary diplomas of the Russian Peace Foundation in gratitude for their care for Russian children, who presented all guests with souvenirs that they made themselves.
The graduates ‘passed the baton’ of help to their younger colleagues who promised regular visits to the hospitable ‘House of Mercy.’
