His Holiness Patriarch Alexy meets with Ambassador Izzat Saad of the Arab Republic of Egypt

On 27 June 2006, His Holiness Patriarch Alexy of Moscow and All Russia met with the recently appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Russia Izzat Saad. The meeting took place in the Patriarch’s residence in Chisty pereulok.

His Holiness the Patriarch noted that ‘with every passing year, even more Orthodox pilgrims are visiting the Christian shrines of Egypt’ and expressed his hope for the development of good relations between Russia and Egypt. He wished Ambassador Saad success in his new responsible post.

His Holiness also said, ‘I would like to express my gratitude to the government of Egypt for an opportunity given to the Orthodox Russians living in Egypt to pray and meet their religious needs in the Church of St. Demetrios of Thessalonika handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church.’
