Orthodox Caucasus youth summer camp continues at Arkhyz in Karachayevo-Cherkessia

A youth summer camp has been opened at the Arkhyz village in Karachayevo-Cherkessia. It is called ‘Orthodox Caucasus’. It is organized by one of the deaneries of the diocese of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz.

The first group consisting of 60 schoolchildren has come in June from several villages in the republic. There are many orphans in it. A summer camp fellowship is especially beneficial for them.

The camp is directed by Rev. Pavel Kuznetsov. An experienced mountaineer, Father Pavel knows from practice how it is to live in field conditions. He generously shares his experience with campers. The priest conducts morning and evening prayers, hold talks with boys and girls on spiritual matters, goes hiking together with them, thus giving them strength and cultivating in them the spirit of mutual support.

Experienced instructors, among them mountaineering guides and medical workers, teach the children the first aid skills.

The dean of local Orthodox parishes, Hegumen Feofilakt Kuryanov, describes the summer camp as ‘practice in Christian loving kindness’.
