Delegation of the American Jewish Committee visits the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations

On 20 June 2006, Rev. Vsevolod Chaplin, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, met with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee headed by its Executive Director David A. Harris. Problems of peace activities of religious communities and an interreligious dialogue in Russia were discussed.

Rev. Vsevolod told the members of the AJC delegation about preparation for a World Summit of Religious Leaders to take place on 3-5 July 2006 in Moscow. He noted that the Summit would discuss problems of protecting and confirming spiritual and moral values in present-day society.

Rev. Vsevolod also spoke about co-operation of the Russian Orthodox Church with traditional religious communities in Russia in the Interreligious Council of Russia.

Representatives of the American Jewish Committee highly appreciated the efforts of the Russian Orthodox Church for maintaining dialogue with representatives of different religions and expressed hope for further cooperation.
