Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin speaks at the ‘round table’ on commercialization of society

On 14 June 2006, a ‘round table’ on ‘Risks of the absolutization of commercial principle in economics and society’ took place in the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Rev. Vsevolod Chaplin spoke about the stand of the Russian Orthodox Church on economic and social problems and called upon the state and society to support a non-commercial section of economics. He also warned against approaching the life of society from the standpoint of market and economic relations only. This attitude is seen in certain legislative acts. He also spoke about some provisions of the Code of moral principles and rules in economics adopted by the World Russian Peoples’ Council.
