World Jewish Congress Representatives Visit the DECR

Some representatives of the World Jewish Congress led by their General Secretary Stephen Herbits and Chairman of the Policy Council Rabbi Israel Singer visited the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate and met the DECR’s vice-chair Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin on the 15 May 2006.

They exchanged information on the Summit of Religious Leaders upcoming in Moscow, 3 to 5 June 2006. The World Jewish Congress representatives said the event would be very important for both success of dialogue between religions and interrelations between faith communities and the state and secular society. They also expressed their hope the interfaith dialogue would be useful for a deeper understanding of different religions’ spiritual traditions and helpful for the lasting peace.

The meeting was also attended by the WJC member Matthew Bronfman, the president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Alexander Machkevich, the general secretary of the EAJC Mikhail Chlenov, the DECR Church and Society Secretariat member G. Roschin.
