Press conference on the Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture to take place on May 11

The Slavonic Foundation of Russia will hold its meeting at 04.00 p.m. on 11 May 2006. The meeting will consider the Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture to be held in Moscow from May 15 to June 1. The main objective of the festival is to bring together the creative potential of the Slavonic people for the sake of preserving and developing their historical, spiritual and cultural traditions.

Meetings with writers, artists and actors will take place in the Moscow parks, cultural centres and libraries; international symposia, conferences and ‘round tables’ on the problems of cooperation of the Slavonic people in education, culture and science will be held.

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia will traditionally officiate at the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Moscow Kremlin on May 24, the commemoration day of Ss Cyril and Methodius Equal-to-the-Apostles. The procession with the Cross will go after the Divine service to the Slavyanskaya Square, where a prayer service will be celebrated before the monument to the holy brothers from Thessalonica.

Children’s pilgrimage to the monasteries and convents located in Moscow and near it is another tradition of the festival. Over 800 children will take in the pilgrimage from May 28 to June 1.

A press conference will take place after the meeting of the Slavonic Foundation; mass media representatives will be accredited for the festival events.
