Solovki Monastery helps the unemployed

Early in May the Solovki Monastery has begun twice-a-week soup kitchens for the unemployed persons on the island, head of the Solovki settlement Dmitry Lugovoy told a ‘Regnum’ news agency correspondent.

‘Earlier the unemployed had their free meal only on the eve of Orthodox feasts, then once a week, and twice a week now’, he said. The monastery pays their utilities bills, and when the unemployed need medical treatment in a regional hospital, the monastery pays for their tickets to Arkhangelsk. If they have no place to stay overnight, they are given shelter at the Solovki representation church in Arkhangelsk’.
