Divine Liturgy celebrated for the first time in the church for labour colonies staff in the Nizhni Novgorod region

On 27 April 2006, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated for the fist time in the church for labour colonies staff in the village of Prudy, Kransnobakovsk district, Nizhni Novgorod region. The church building was full, as the staff of labour colonies Nos. 6,7 and 10 located nearby attended Paschal service together with their families.

The decoration of the Church of St.George the Victorious was completed towards Pascha. The first stone of the church building was laid with the blessing of Archbishop Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas. The church was built during a year. The last touch in church decoration is an icon of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Holy Doors.

An idea to build a church for the labour colonies staff was given in 2000. The then Metropolitan Nikolai (Kutepov) of Nizhni Novgorod consecrated the Church of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God in a labour colony and said it was necessary to care not only for the souls of the inmates, but also take spiritual care for the labour colonies staff, as they always deal with people who are mentally distorted and morally empty. It was decided to build a church on the village territory.
