Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture to be observed in Kalmykia

The fist meeting of the organizing committee for the Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture in Kalmykia was held on April 17, 2006, at the Kalmykia State University. It was attended by Archbishop Zosima of Elista and Kalmykia, University Rector G. Borlikov, Kalmykian Ministry for Education and Science deputy minister R. Dyzkiev, the ministry staff responsible for youth work, journalists and the university staff members.

‘Beginning from this year, the Kalmykia University will take a more active part in the Days of Slavonic Literature and Culture, the task of which is to introduce young people to the cultural traditions of the Russian people’, the rector said. ‘Our common task is to teach youth to cherish the paternal legacy, to develop the experience of our ancestors who lived in this land in peace and harmony. We would like to make our own contribution to the building of new Russia based on spiritual and moral values shared by all her peoples’.

Archbishop Zosima thanked the rector for the attention the university gives to the education of youth, saying, ‘I am confident that together we will do much to introduce our children to Russian culture and its spiritual principles, so that the beauty and special nature of Russian cultural traditions may become understandable to the younger generation’.

The republican ministries and departments, whose representatives have been incorporated in the organizing committee, will prepare prizes and gifts for students and schoolchildren who will participate in academic contests.
