Session of the 10th Jubilee World People’s Council on ‘Faith. Man. Earth. Mission of Russia in the 21st’ century, chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, will be held in the Church Councils Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on 4 April 2006.

Correlation between the Orthodox and secular system of values will be discussed. The question of Russia’s need to assimilate democratic ideas creatively will be raised. The discussion on social position of modern man and his influence on society, morality and social order will be held. Its work will be summed up in final documents – messages of the Council to the world.

The Council will contribute to the formation of church and social position on human rights.

Considering the fact that the World Russian People’s Council was given a special consultative status at the UN on 21 July 2005, the decisions of the 10th WRPC will positively influence on intercivilizational dialogue, contribute to the fruitful international cooperation, and help reach accord in our society on the most important topical issues.

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia has been the head of the Council since its foundation.

The World Russian People’s Council has been working since 1993. It plays an important part in formation of civil society in Russia. Among those who traditionally participate in its sessions are representatives of all branches of power, leaders of public associations, representatives of traditional religious communities of Russia, lecturers and students, scientists and figures of culture, delegates from Russian communities from abroad, and numerous representatives of youth.

The Council has become an important public forum, a place of meeting for people of various political convictions who are concerned in the future of Russia and aim at constructive dialogue and active cooperation.
