Schoolteachers in Transbaikal Region to be introduced to the foundations of Russian culture

On 27 March 2006, weekly update qualification courses have begun its work in the Orthodox cultural and educational centre in Chita on the initiative of the Institute of updating qualification of educationalists.

According to the Chita diocese press-service, teachers of secondary schools who teach the foundations of Orthodox and Russian traditional culture as well as literature will be introduced to the basics of Church Slavonic, symbolism of church buildings and the canons of iconpainting. The studies are directed by the lecturers from the Transbaikal State Pedagogical University for Humanities, the Chita Institute of updating qualification of educationalists and priests of the Chita diocese.

The courses being completed, the educationalists will meet with Bishop Evstafy of Chita and Transbaikal region, Zabinfo.ru reports.
