The program of involving clergymen in work with ‘difficult’ children has started in Rostov-on-Don with the blessing of Archbishop of Rostov and Novocherkassk.
On 21 March 2006, Fr. Dimitry, Rector of the Church of Our Lady of Kazan, met with teenagers registered in the Department for Juvenile Delinquents. The priest told the children the history of the Church of Our Lady of Kazan and spoke on the foundations of the Christian religion.
Some children have come to the church for the first time. Fr. Dimitry explained that children could come to the priest and tell him about their concerns and worries. At parting, Fr. Dimitry gave them small icons of the Mother of God and blessed every child.
The head of the Department for Juvenile Delinquents lieutenant colonel Galina Komnatnaya initialized the project on involving clergymen in work with ‘difficult’ children. She proposed it to the city administration and the Diocese of Rostov. Archbishop Panteleimon of Rostov and Novocherkassk blessed this good undertaking.
‘Our children lack kindness, cordiality, compassion and other aspects of spiritual education’, Alexander Litovchenko, senior inspector of the Department for Juvenile Delinquents, thinks. ‘Positive influence of religion on teenagers should play a role of social guiding line and direct them to the right way’.
