The choir of St. Nicholas-in-Tolmchi performs Bach’s Passions According to St. John

The St. John Passions were performed on March 21, 2006, the birthday of Johannes Sebastian Bach, at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. This famous work by the great German composer, relating the passions of Christ the Saviour and His death on the cross, was performed by the choir of St. Nicholas-in-Tolmachi at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Seasons chamber orchestra and soloists.

Before the recital, Archpriest Nikolay Sokolov, rector of St. Nicholas’s, addressed the audience, telling the listeners about the feat performed by the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross and how His passions are reflected in Bach’s music.
