Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine consecrated foundation stone of the Church of the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple in Kiev

His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine laid a foundation of the Church of the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple in Podol, Kiev. He blessed the constructers for the good undertaking and thanked city authorities for their help in revival of the church.

Among those who came to the ceremony were Kiev mayor Alexander Omelchenko, sponsors and representatives of city authorities. ‘It is time to restore this church. It is joyful that the community of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky showed initiative, collected funds and participated in projecting’, Kiev mayor said and underscored that it was planned to accomplish the building in August next year.

The Podol Church in Kiev has history of many centuries. The Church was first mentioned in the 10th century. Soon after the Baptism of Kievers the Church of St. Vlasy was erected in place of the pagan temple. When the church decayed, a new wooden church of the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple was erected. Then it was decided to build a new church of stone that was open till the last century, when it was destroyed as many other Orthodox shrines. In the end of 1990s with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir community of St. Alexander Nevsky began restoring the Church of the Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple.
