Participants in the World Council of Churches to work out a common position on new technologies affecting personal freedom

The 9th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC) that completed its work in Porto Alegre, Brazil, urged to work out a common position on the abuse of scientific inventions, bio- and energy technologies, technologies of security and others.
A provision in the report of the WCC Program Committee is devoted to this topic.
‘The question of attitude to the technologies of security was introduced on the proposal of the Russian Orthodox Church as an important issue of observing human rights for private life and freedom of world view in the face of new means of collecting and handling information’, a Russian participant in the Assembly said.
