Head of the Federal Agency for Atomic Energy Sergey Kirienko visits the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Teheran

On February 25, on the Memorial Saturday of Meatfare, Sergey Kirienko, Head of the Federal Agency for Atomic Energy (Rosatom), visited the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Teheran during his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Hegumen Alexander (Zarkeshev), Rector of the Cathedral, welcomed the guest at the church. S. Kirienko came in the church to see the interior. Hegumen Alexander told him about the four-century history of Russian Orthodoxy in this country and the recent 60th anniversary of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. They also discussed pastoral work with Russian experts at the Busher nuclear power station where Fr. Alexander regularly conducted Orthodox services in the temporary Church of Our Lady of Kazan.

In conclusion, Hegumen Alexander congratulated S. Kirienko on the Cheesefare and presented the high guest with his book on ‘The Russian Orthodox Church in Persia-Iran (1597-2001)’.
