Well-known Russian traveler Fyodor Konyukhov sees the meaning of solitary expeditions in the opportunity for moving away from daily routine and communicating with God.
‘It is easier to pray when you are alone in the center of an ocean. When I put out to sea I always begin reading the Bible from the very first page and do not return until I read it through’, Fydor said in an interview.
He said one of his ancestors was an Orthodox priest and he himself considered ordination. Now it is already late to think about it, he believes but dreams of becoming an icon-painter.
‘I believe I am too sinful to paint the images of the Mother of God or Jesus Christ. I just cannot bring myself to do it. Though when I look at icons as a professional artists as I am, I can see that I can choose the colours and process the board in the proper way. But I just cannot bring myself. I hope it will come with time. And I will thank God if it does’, Konyukhov said.
