Valaam Monastery helps Karelia orphans

With the blessing of Bishop Pankraty of Troitsk, Father Superior of the Monastery of Transfiguration in Valaam, starting from February 2006 the monastery will patronize three orphanages.

Aid will be extended to the most distant from the Karelia’a capital orphanages: the Rabochostrovsky Orphanage (the Kem District), the Veshkelsk Orphanage (the Suoiarvsk District), and the Avdeevsk Orphanage (the Pudozh District).

Some 100 children reside in these institutions. Other orphanages will receive foodstuffs and writing materials.
