The ‘Visible Library’ action is held in Kaliningrad region with the blessing of the Orthodox Church

The ‘Visible Library’ action is held in Kaliningrad Region. It is organized by the Educational center of Culture Ministry of Kaliningrad Region. It is aimed at attracting attention of authorities and citizens to the problems of libraries, opening their resources and opportunities for the residents of the region and drawing youth to reading.

The auction started in the Cherniakhovsk town library on 20 December 2005, where the rector of the Church of St. Michael blessed the undertaking and lighted the first of hundred candles, which were to be lit in the libraries of the region including the smallest village libraries. The candles are symbols of light showing the way to knowledge.

The library in Cherniakhovsk closely cooperates with Orthodox parish of the town and with methodical association of teachers. The theme of spiritual and moral education of youth plays an important part in library’s work. According to the rector of the Church of St. Michael Archpriest Joseph Ilnitsky ‘we should remember that spirituality loses its meaning without religion. Spiritual person and educated person are not synonyms’. It is not by chance that library’s work on the ‘Light of Orthodoxy’ program is based on traditional for Russians Orthodox values.
