Carved iconostasis is set up at the Church of St. George in the Baikonur Cosmodrome

Ten meters long and five meters high – these are the dimensions of the new carved iconostasis at the Church of St. George in the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The craftsmen from the town of Schigry, Kursk Region, made the iconostasis for the ‘cosmic’ church in two months. The unique techniques based on the famous Kharkov carving have been developed here for the last decade.

The church items made by the Schigry masters adorn Orthodox churches of Russia, Canada, France, Italy and Greece. This year they have made an iconostasis for the world famous monastery of St. Catherine on Sinai.
