Observation square is to be opened at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Kaliningrad

Works on exterior decoration of the Kaliningrad Cathedral of Christ the Savior were completed on the eve of the coming winter 2005.

‘We only have to revet the socle of the church’, said Hegumen Markel, head of the Department for External Relations of the Kaliningrad Diocese. ‘It is decorated with green granite matching the roof ’.

The cathedral has its own observation sight. Only handrails around the main doom are seen from the ground. The total height of the church with the cross is 68 meters, the square is situated on a 40 meters height. It can be compared to the Isaiah Cathedral in St. Petersburg, its sight is situated on a 43 meters height.

‘It is the highest point in the center of Kaliningrad’, explained Hegumen Markel. ‘When the whether is good, you can see almost the whole city from here’.

The church and the square is to be opened for citizens in September 2006.
