The bell ‘Andrew the First-Called’ is lifted up to the bell tower in the Valaam Monastery

A thousand pood bell ‘Andrew the First-Called’ delivered to Valaam in August was lifted up to the bell tower.

Almost three months of preparatory work to make a construction for elevation the biggest Valaam bell to a 40 meter height preceded the event.

Before lifting up the bell, Bishop Pankraty of Troitsk with brothers conducted a prayer service and blessed all participants of the work.

The work on fixing the bell on a supporting beam has been completed on November 2. A five-kilogram tongue is to be fixed soon. For the first time, the new ‘Andrew the First-Called’ will ring on December 13 on the feast of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy blessed to celebrate the day of the monastery’s renewal, which had started 16 years ago in 1989, on this day.
