Cathedral church in Vladivostok to be built in 2008

On 31 October 2005, the Governor of Primorje S.M.Darkin held a conference on the construction of the cathedral church in the region. The terms of the construction were discussed and approved.

Press service of the region administration reported that S.M.Darkin was informed about the progress of works at the construction site.

It was resolved at the last conference that the residents of the region would take decision about the outward appearance of the church. Public opinion poll is being conducted.

The cathedral (61 m high) is being built on the initiative of the governor. Construction works are financed on donations of organizations and individuals. A special charity account was opened.

The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour is being built near the city central square. The first Russian discoverers arrived here 145 years ago. The history of Primorje and the Russian Far East has begun here. A solemn divine service was celebrated here by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia five years ago.

The construction of the cathedral church in Vladivostok will be completed in 2008.
