Federation Council speaker S.M.Mironov visited the church of St.Michael the Archangel in the Nizhniy Novgorod Kremlin. Bishop Georgy of Nizhniy Novgorod and Arzamas met the high guest and conducted a short sightseeing of the church for him.

Federation Council speaker and Bishop George laid flowers on the grave of Kuzma Minin.

S.Mironov and Bishop Georgy visited the Church of the Nativity of St.John the Baptist and inspected a monument to Minin and Pozharsky, which will be unveiled on 4 November 2005.

‘Historical roots of the celebration of the Day of National Unity are to be found in the Nizhniy Novgorod land. The fact that this church has been restored on the donations of patrons shows a high degree of civic spirit. I believe that the Nizhniy Novgorod land will give many examples of reviving Russian religious and civic positions. Let us make this feast the real Day of National Unity’, S.Mironov said.

S.Mironov’s programme in Nizhniy Novgorod includes his meeting with students of the Nizhniy Novgorod State University, visit to the ‘Gidromash’ plant and to the construction site of metro-bridge and planetarium.
