Bishop Feofan visits Nalchik

On 14 October 2005, Bishop Feofan of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz visited Nalchik attacked by the illegal armed groups on the eve.

Bishop Feofan visited the city hospital where the injured citizens and staff members of Law Enforcement Agencies were treated. He went to the wards to comfort and support the injured. Among them was the local mufti’s father Musa Pshikhachev. Bishop Feofan also talked to the doctors.

Bishop Feofan met with the President of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic A. Kanokov and chairman of the republican government G. Gubin. Bishop Feofan conveyed them the addresses of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia and Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate. A. Kanokov thanked the Russian Orthodox Church for its care for citizens of the republic.

They discussed how to develop and strengthen ethnic peace in Kabardino-Balkaria and the Caucasus. The participants noted that power structures responded adequately to the perfidious terrorist attack. The events of 13-14 October also showed that authorities should pay more attention to the spiritual and moral state of the society.
