On 10 October 2005, a solemn ceremony of taking the oath by the first-year students of the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs took place. Present at the ceremony were the relatives and friends of the students. After taking the oath 312 persons have become full members of militia.
Present at the ceremony were chief of the Nizhniy Novgorod MIA Academy lieutenant-general V.Kanygin, Bishop Georgy of Nizhniy Novgorod and Arzamas, head of the directorate for cooperation with security bodies of the Nizhniy Novgorod government A.Makarov, head of administration of the Oka region V.Yashkov, deputy head of the Nizhniy Novgorod regional GUVD A.Ulyanov, and others.
After the oath was taken, Bishop Georgy addressed the students with parting words:
‘Today you have taken your oath to the Fatherland. People who dedicated their lives to the service to people and the state have been in demand in all times. The very principle of ministry has been laid as foundation of the life of the Orthodox Church.
It may happen that you will have to give your life – the dearest that a man has – to save other peoples’ lives.
I wish you to live a long and fruitful life and never forget your duty. I wish you to be able to say with clear conscience ‘I have a great honour…’ Please accept my congratulations.’
Bishop Georgy celebrated a prayer service for the Orthodox warriors.
