The Russian Orthodox Church to celebrate the day of mercy to the imprisoned

The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the day of mercy to the imprisoned on the feast of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God on 14 October 2005. The action is aimed at attracting attention to the problems of prisons and convicts.

The Orthodox priests will visit jails and cells and conduct prayer service in prison’s churches. The clerics will congratulate the convicts on the feast and convey them presents regardless of their confession.

Bishop Alexander of Dmitrov will celebrate the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God at Butyrsky prison №2.
