Bishop Feofan meets with mothers of Beslan

Bishop Feofan of Stavropolie and Vladikavkaz met with representatives of the ‘Mothers of Beslan’ Association on September 23, 2005.

Mothers, whose children were killed in the terrorist action in Beslan in September 2004, set up this public organization.

Bishop Feofan confirmed the readiness of the Church to give spiritual support to mothers who managed to stand this tragedy.

‘As pilgrims we have already visited the holy places of the Caucuses and the Holy Land where we prayed to the Lord and we will continue going to such pilgrimages in future’, Bishop Feofan said.

Some questions connected with the consequences of the Beslan tragedy were discussed. Among them was the activities of Grigoriy Grabovoy who promised to ‘raise from the dead’ the children killed in the terrorist action.

Bishop Feofan and his interlocutors agreed that cynical exploitation of grief oversteps the limits of morality and requires legal inquiry.
