The construction of a church at the Russian-Chinese border almost completed

Cupolas and crosses have been installed on the Church of St. George the Conqueror, which is being built at the Sosnovaya Pad’ frontier passage at the Russian-Chinese border. The design provides for two cupolas to be installed over the refectory part of the church and over the five-bell towers. The largest bell has been already lifted, the rest to be installed later.

The foundation stone of the church was blessed by Archbishop Veniamin of Vladivostok and Primorye on May 30, 2005. The construction continued through the summer in a dynamic and coordinated way, as all its components were prepared in advance.

The wooden church, though quite new, looks ancient, resembling those built in Russia in the 15th-17th centuries. It is located on a hill and can be seen from all sides. Frontier-guards are especially eager to see the church completed. As St. George the Conqueror is the patron saint of the army, they believe their service at the border under his protection will be calmer.

In August, a church delegation brought over a particle of St. George to the church under construction. People in the Pogranichny settlement expressed hope that, with God’s help and through the intercession of St. George, they soon would be able to come to the new church for the first service.
