The priests who defended Sevastopol to be commemorated

The priests who participated in the defense of Sevastopol during the Crimea wars will be commemorated in the frameworks of the 150th anniversary of city in September 2005.

On 8 September 2005, a requiem service will conducted in the common cemetery where over 100 thousands Sevastopol’s defenders were buried. One of the last city’s defenders – the chaplain whose remains have been found recently – will be buried this day, 150 years after the defense had finished.

It is also planned to open the monument to St. Andrew the First-Called on the Fiolent Cape in the Monastery of St. George. Its monks actively participated in the heroic defense of Sevastopol.
